THE ORCHESTRA

The band, which evokes the golden age of the blues, has put together a diverse bouquet of the finest songs by female singers who have defined the history of the genre (e.g. Bessie Smith, Ma Rainey, Ruth Brown, etc.). The production faithfully reproduces the atmosphere of the 1920s and 1930s, the classical era, the world of luxurious nightclubs and secret speakeasys. In addition to the virtuosity of the musicians, their charismatic performance is elevated by the heartfelt love for traditional blues to a musical dimension that the audience can rarely enjoy not only within the framework of the genre, but also beyond these frameworks.

Petra Pintér is one of the most promising singers of the young generation, a connoisseur and dedicated believer of authentic blues. She has been on stage since her adolescence, has been in numerous formations, and has also appeared as a guest artist at concerts alongside the greats of the genre. Petra and the Paper Hearts is her first own band, the realization of an old dream.

Sonny is a well-known and respected guitarist-singer not only in Hungary but also in neighboring countries. As a bandleader, he is known for his work with Sonny and His Wild Cows, and as a guitarist, he is primarily known for his work with Ed Philips and the Memphis Patrol. Connoisseurs consider him one of the most authentic practitioners of traditional blues.

Csaba Pengő is known to the wider public from the Muddy Shoes and The Mojo (Mojo Workings) formations. His name is primarily associated with the blues and jazz genres, but as an extremely versatile double bass player who knows no musical boundaries, he has already made a solo album, performed in a fusion rock trio, and in various experimental jazz formations.

Szabolcs Nagy is a respected pianist of renowned bands (Muddy Shoes, Ripoff Raskolnikov Band, Braindogs, Ghymes). He studied composition at the Music Academy, but has also been an active player in the Hungarian blues scene for a long time, and has also proven his talent alongside American musicians (Sugar Blue, The Holmes Brothers, Louisiana Red).

The songs on the program paint a vivid, authentic picture of America between the two world wars, revealing the original roots of popular music, which still define Western pop culture today. The concert, enhanced by an educational presentation, brings the audience one step closer to the pure source of the blues: the audience can learn about the lives of the most important performers of the era, the role of female singers in the development and popularity of the genre, the circumstances of the birth of the songs, the social aspects of race music and the music history of race records.
